"Exeter Festival Chorus coupled with the City of Bath Bach Choir and Bath Philharmonia, all under the direction of Nigel Perrin, gave a performance in which human emotion was matched by spiritual intensity. Orchestral playing was always responsive, and often beautiful, and the clarity of the chorus added huge impact. ...the chorus swept the board with their rich sound. Their demons were absolutely horrible, which being decoded means they were marvellously chilling to the spine. The combined voices were at their most tender in Be Merciful, Be Gracious, while the sheer force of Praise to the Holiest caught us all up in its majesty, and the climax of the final Amen left many of us overwhelmed."
